1st GradeJust like the 2nd graders, I taught the 1st graders all about a new app - it's a screen casting app called Viitle (see my previous post about Vittle). Students are working on adding and subtracting within 10 - and different strategies to help. For example: draw a picture, use a tens frame, use a number line, use a number bond, etc. As you can see/hear... the kids need LOTS of practice with screen casting. We will keep working on writing our names, and speaking in a clear tone. It's difficult! But again... this is just their practice, so we will celebrate small victories! You can also easily assess a student's comprehension by watching them solve problems. It's pretty awesome! We (as teachers) need to remember (and more importantly, show our students) that any road to success is paved with errors and mistakes, and all it means is that we will be better next time! I will post them as soon as the students have finished working on them!

Grade 1Today we learned all about screencasting - using an AWESOME app called ScreenChomp! It's a free and easy screencasting app... but unfortunately, I don't think it's available on the iTunes store anymore! Another downfall to ScreenChomp - I can't export the student work. I will be investigating other screencasting apps in the meantime, since the student work is fabulous! If anyone has any ideas, please contact me! Grade 4We learned all about Stop Motion today by watching my Prezi - and we will be planning our very own Stop Motion math video next time! Stay tuned!
1st GradeToday was the first day of RESULTS for 1st and 6th graders... and it was so much fun! The first graders started their day with some Go Noodle (Pop See Ko!), which is always a blast! Then we talked about screen casting. I showed them a few YouTube examples: And the students worked on storyboarding their own math related stop-motion! The kids are really excited about this new adventure - and so am I! 6th GradeThe 6th graders were introduced to stop motion animation today. I showed them a Prezi I created showing TONS of awesome examples! I also showed them my Lego stop motion attempts. Some students started planning their animation! Click here to access the planner the students used. Then, the students shared their progress with the group (sorry the picture is so dark!). It's going to be a great year with these kiddos!
The podcasts are finally uploaded! Thank you for being so patient! Take a look/listen below... *Disclaimer: I only uploaded the podcasts that were complete, and stayed on topic. 1st Grade PodcastsMrs. BocoMrs. DePerroMrs. Lohner2nd Grade PodcastsMrs. LittleMrs. SkalaMrs. Stump3rd Grade PodcastsMrs. AringMr. ArizpeMrs. Hamilton5th Grade PodcastsMrs. ChaniotMrs. Torre6th Grade PodcastsMrs. MitchellMrs. Piper1st and 6th Grade (Mrs. Mitchell's Class)Today, I worked with the 1st grade and 6th grade! The 1st graders learned podcasts, and we even listened to a few examples, like: History Goes Bump Podcast, Current Events with an 8 Year Old, and The News to Amuse. We learned that podcasts can serve many different purposes: mostly to inform, to entertain, and to persuade. I then showed them the GarageBand app, and we learned about recording our voices. We completed a reading of a Spring Poem as our very first podcast. The students really love hearing their voices, as well as their classmates! They will be working on their OWN podcast during the next few weeks. Here are our Spring Poem Podcasts. Enjoy! The 6th graders learned how to plan their podcast. We listened to a few more examples of podcasts, and I showed them the Podcast Storyboard that I created. The students worked hard with their their groups to think of some creative ways to teach their listeners about Ancient China. Here are some pictures of them hard at work! I will be so excited to share them with you when they are done in a few weeks!
Today, I had the pleasure of working with 1st grade and 4th grade! 1st graders explored some educational apps, such as Doodle Fit, Little Writer, and Cyberchase 3D Builder. Check out the photos and videos below! The 4th graders designed their Word Clouds. Students learned that it's a word frequency app/program, so if they wanted a word to appear larger (like their name), they needed to type it multiple times. The students wrote a short narrative about themselves, including what makes them unique. Students also learned about Apple's Air Drop - which allows content sharing between Apple devices, and sent me their artwork via Air Drop! Word Clouds are an image composed of words used in a particular text or subject, in which the size of each word indicates it's frequency or importance. There are many cool Word Cloud programs out there: Wordle, Tagxedo, and ABCya Word Cloud (which is what we used). Students brainstormed 10 (or more) key words about themselves and their lives. Younger students put these into the Word Cloud, and older students wrote an "All About Me" paragraph, focusing on those 10 words. Check out some of the student work below!
