I'd like to congratulate all the new members of the upcoming Chula Vista Hills Broadcast Team! All of these students turned in exemplary applications, and successfully answered some rigorous questions during a panel interview with myself, Mr. Ruth, and Mrs. Bangle. I can tell these students are enthusiastic and passionate, and I'm so excited to work with them! If you see them around campus, make sure to give them a high-5 and tell them "congratulations!" 3rd Quarter Broadcast Team - 2015/2016

I had the priviledge of working with the CV HIlls 3rd graders to complete our very first green screen video! We filmed this for our Holiday Sing-Along. Hope you enjoy it! This week, the remaining Digital Media Arts and Technology RESULTS students (Grades 2, 3, 4 and 5) were able to work on GarageBand on the iPads. We collaborated on a group recording of a winter poem, and then the students had time to work and experiment on GarageBand on their own! Choose a poem and listen below! Enjoy!
I was invited into the 3rd grade classes today (Mrs. Hamilton, Mrs. Aring, and Mr. Arizpe) to work on iMovie! All of the 3rd graders took a walking field trip to Rice Canyon this week and recorded their observations of the native resources on the iPad! They were busy learning about the plants and animals in the area, and how the Kumeyaay would've used those resources to survive in the area. The students took pictures, video, and recorded their notes onto the iPad Notes. There were some great photos! The students started compiling their information onto an iMovie. I am so excited to see some finished products! I was very proud of all the hard work they were doing! In RESULTS today, my Digital Media Art and Technology students were introduced to iPads. We worked on 3 different apps: 1. Eggy 100 HD - it's just like "fruit ninja", but for sight words! 2. Butterfly Math - students practice counting and simple addition 3. And some different letter/number tracing apps: iWriteWords, Little Writer, and Ollie's Handwriting & Phonics. *All of these apps have FREE versions! All the kids did really well! Today I had the privilege of working with Mrs. Lohner's 1st grade class! We worked with Word Clouds, and tried our best to use the built-in microphone to dictate our writing about biomes into a Word Cloud! We still need to practice reading loudly and clearly in order for the iPad to understand what we are saying. We even learned about Air Drop - so students could immediately send their work to Mrs. Lohner! They made me a wonderful "thank you" Word Cloud - look below! (Mrs. Lohner actually used Air Drop to send it to me!) I love it! I also met with Mrs. Hamilton's and Mrs. Aring's 3rd grade classes and discussed the 'camera' and 'note' apps on the iPads. The 3rd grade classes are taking the iPads with them to Rice Canyon to document their learning about the Kumeyaay and the natural resources found in the area. When they are all done, we plan on making an iMovie with all their observations!
Our 1st and 6th graders were introduced to GarageBand today! Each class practiced recording their voices and combining different audio tracks to form one long track. We talked about the importance of speaking clearly with expression, to make our voices more pleasant to listen to. This is a skill that all students will need when producing their own Podcasts (coming soon!). Listen below to some winter poems we recorded! This was our first time using this technology, so it's a little raw and choppy at times, but will only improve with practice and time! Enjoy!
