The Kindergarten students had time to explore more learning apps today! Here are a few we worked with:
A general favorite is called Box Drop Math. It was been really neat to see the kids learn different strategies to solve addition facts quickly and efficiently!
Another favorite is called Endless Wordplay. It helps students with spelling and supports their phonemic awareness!
Finally, we have Doodle Fit. It can be a very challenging game, but I have seen many Kindergarten students attempt it and work hard! They are incredibly determined! I love to see students fail and use logic to fix their mistakes and persevere! I absolutely love watching this little lady work with the app... you can see the wheels turning in her head, trying to figure out the puzzle!

ComicCon was a HUGE success! What a turnout! I wasn't able to take a ton of photos, but here is what I was able to capture...
Some videos:
And last, but certainly not least, here was the first ever video for the Chula Vista Hills Film Festival! I was completely impressed by all the submissions! Excellent work Cheetahs!

Today I got to work with three (yes, three) fabulous classes today! I am so lucky!

First, I got to work with Mrs. Aring's class on creating an iMovie with her students. The students created many "rules" to follow when working with a device, tablet, or iPad. They then got into their groups and began to create their storyboards! I am excited to hear their ideas about their films!

Secondly, I worked with Mrs. Talamantez's and Mrs. Ortiz's class (with Ms. Miller) to teach the basics of iMovie. The students got busy right away working on their movie to showcase their "greatest invention". Here are some pictures of students hard at work! Enjoy!

I have been such a busy teacher lately! Today I got to work with Mrs. Lohner's and Mrs. Skala's class!
In Mrs. Lohner's class, we worked on another podcast (using this voice recorder app) - this time, students interviewed each other about their chosen American Heroes. They certainly are getting used to recording their voices, and making sure to speak slowly and clearly, so that the listeners can easily understand and are entertained! Here are their podcasts! Enjoy!
When I followed up with Mrs. Lohner's class, I had seen that the class had listened to a few mentor media podcasts, and compared them with their own productions. They had created a T-chart showing things they noticed they are doing well, as well as some things they need to work on. That was FABULOUS! I'm so proud of all the hard work 1st grade is doing with their podcasts! Keep it up! Here is a photo of their chart:

In Mrs. Skala's class, we started a new project. We will be creating a short informative film (which we can share with other classes, or the whole school, and beyond!) on how to treat the iPads with respect. The students learned about the word "etiquette", and created a storyboard for their scene. Here are some photos!

I met lots of new 1st and 6th grade friends today! Today was the first day I got to work with the other half of students. It really has been so wonderful to meet all the terrific students here at this school. I am greeted by so many smiles and hugs each day, that it can make it difficult to walk through the hallway!

In RESULTS, we worked on Word Clouds - the same lesson I did a few months ago for the other students... except this time, we completed them using the iPad Word Cloud app! Here are Mrs. Lohner's, Mrs. Boco's, Mrs. DePerro's, and Mrs. Mitchell's students' work!

The 4th graders are busy working on a persuasive writing piece about the best invention - in their opinion - to be invented during their lifetime. After some extensive research, why not make an iMovie about it? The students are excited to show off their digital media skills!

I was incredibly lucky to work with 2 fantastic classes today - Mrs. Wahlroos' Kindergarten class, and Mrs. Lohner's 1st grade!
In Mrs. Lohner's 1st grade, the students worked on recording short podcasts (we used this voice recorder app) about their American Symbols, This was their first time recording, so it was pretty neat! The students learned how to introduce themselves and include thoughtful dialogue. We will be working on conclusions and follow-up questions next time! Have a listen below... enjoy!
In Kindergarten, I filmed each student individually reading their George Washington reports. What a treat! I was so proud of their hard work and dedication! Mrs. Wahlroos is doing a wonderful job fostering the love of reading, and encouraging confidence with her students. Keep it up Kindergarten!
