Please join us as we explore mathematical thinking and strategies in Mrs. Ortiz's 4th grade classroom! Stay tuned to the end, because Mrs. Bangle will give you some tips on how to implement these strategies into your math work at home!

The 4th Graders have completed their Explorer iMovies (audio letters) and I'd like to share them with you. I've created a YouTube playlist for each teacher. Look below for the links! I was very impressed with how they turned out! Enjoy!
Click here for Mrs. Ortiz's class! Click here for Mrs. Sutton's class! Click here for Mrs. Talamantez's class! I was lucky enough to visit all three 4th grade classrooms today (Mrs. Ortiz, Mrs. Sutton, and Mrs. T) to begin a new digital media project! All of the 4th graders have been learning about famous explorers, and they wrote a formal letter describing their journeys. The students located some images on the internet, saved them, and began an iMovie. They extended the length of the photo, added filters, adjusted the Ken Burn effect (if needed), and added a title. Tomorrow, we will be recording their letters audibly. They will read and record them into iMovie! So much fun! Here is a few photos of the students working hard to find images and add them into iMovie! More to come in the following days!
Here are Mrs. Ortiz's 4th grade iMovies about Animal Adaptations! Students worked hard learning about adaptations, researching their specific animals, creating their storyboards, and creating their iMovie to educate their audience on their animal. In no particular order... AJAngeloChassidyDiegoLucyDominikIsabellahIsaiahLaurynLorenzaLouisMargaritaMollyValeriaWilliamAshlynMitchellVincentTristanVineethZohetDaisyJojoLoganGrade 1Today we learned all about screencasting - using an AWESOME app called ScreenChomp! It's a free and easy screencasting app... but unfortunately, I don't think it's available on the iTunes store anymore! Another downfall to ScreenChomp - I can't export the student work. I will be investigating other screencasting apps in the meantime, since the student work is fabulous! If anyone has any ideas, please contact me! Grade 4We learned all about Stop Motion today by watching my Prezi - and we will be planning our very own Stop Motion math video next time! Stay tuned!
3rd and 4th GradeToday, I worked with the 3rd and 4th grade! They all learned podcasts, and we even listened to a few examples, like: History Goes Bump Podcast, Current Events with an 8 Year Old, and The News to Amuse. We learned that podcasts can serve many different purposes: mostly to inform, to entertain, and to persuade. I then showed them the GarageBand app, and we learned about recording our voices. We completed a reading of a Spring Poem as our very first podcast. The students really love hearing their voices, as well as their classmates! They will be working on their own podcast during the next few weeks. Here are our Spring Poem Podcasts. Just press the 'play' button and make sure your volume is turned up! Enjoy!
Today, I had the pleasure of working with 1st grade and 4th grade! 1st graders explored some educational apps, such as Doodle Fit, Little Writer, and Cyberchase 3D Builder. Check out the photos and videos below! The 4th graders designed their Word Clouds. Students learned that it's a word frequency app/program, so if they wanted a word to appear larger (like their name), they needed to type it multiple times. The students wrote a short narrative about themselves, including what makes them unique. Students also learned about Apple's Air Drop - which allows content sharing between Apple devices, and sent me their artwork via Air Drop! Enjoy! 1st Graders are hard at work!1st Graders working on logical thinking and problem solving with Doodle Fit!1st Grader working on Little Writer!Mrs. Talamantez's Class - Word Clouds!Mrs. Sutton's Class - Word Clouds!Mrs. Ortiz's Class - Word Clouds!Today I got to work with three (yes, three) fabulous classes today! I am so lucky!
First, I got to work with Mrs. Aring's class on creating an iMovie with her students. The students created many "rules" to follow when working with a device, tablet, or iPad. They then got into their groups and began to create their storyboards! I am excited to hear their ideas about their films! Secondly, I worked with Mrs. Talamantez's and Mrs. Ortiz's class (with Ms. Miller) to teach the basics of iMovie. The students got busy right away working on their movie to showcase their "greatest invention". Here are some pictures of students hard at work! Enjoy! The 4th graders are busy working on a persuasive writing piece about the best invention - in their opinion - to be invented during their lifetime. After some extensive research, why not make an iMovie about it? The students are excited to show off their digital media skills!
Today, the 3rd and 4th graders got a chance to work with Word Clouds! Here are the final products: Mr. Arizpe's Class Ms. Aring's ClassMs. Hamilton's ClassMs. Talamantez's Class Ms. Sutton's ClassMs. Ortiz's Class |
