The 4th Graders have completed their Explorer iMovies (audio letters) and I'd like to share them with you. I've created a YouTube playlist for each teacher. Look below for the links! I was very impressed with how they turned out! Enjoy!

I was lucky enough to visit all three 4th grade classrooms today (Mrs. Ortiz, Mrs. Sutton, and Mrs. T) to begin a new digital media project! All of the 4th graders have been learning about famous explorers, and they wrote a formal letter describing their journeys. The students located some images on the internet, saved them, and began an iMovie. They extended the length of the photo, added filters, adjusted the Ken Burn effect (if needed), and added a title. Tomorrow, we will be recording their letters audibly. They will read and record them into iMovie! So much fun! Here is a few photos of the students working hard to find images and add them into iMovie! More to come in the following days!
2nd GradeThe second graders practiced making their thinking visible using Vittle! They are getting really good at explaining their thinking! Today I challenged them to complete an addition problem (two digit + 1 digit), while including a strategy of their choice, and important key words. I was very impressed! Here are their Vittles! They are so excited to get started!
1st GradeToday, I introduced the 1st graders to Vittle - a free screen casting app. I showed them how to use all the tools, and gave them some time to explore and do some silly/fun things on the app. They seemed to really enjoy it! The goal is to have the students use the app proficiently, and be able to explain their thinking/make their thinking visible with some math problems. I really think they'll be catching on quickly! I'll be posting some of their videos soon, when they feel confident using the app! 6th GradeSince this was my first rotation with the 6th graders, I used the same Prezi to explain stop motion and show the students specific examples of different kids of stop motion. They are excited to begin!
Every Friday, I am invited into the 2nd grade classrooms to create math screencasts! This was my second week visiting, and the students are working on making their problem solving visible and clear. We are using a free app called Vittle on the iPads, and the kids really enjoy it. Each week, they get better and better! I had a 2nd grader come up to me and say, "I had a dream about Vittle last night!". I think that's so cool! Here are some photos of students at work, and some student work! The 2nd graders are currently working on explaining addition strategies - specifically the "Make a Ten" strategy. Students also tried to add in the Bar Model, however, we (the teachers), quickly noticed that it was difficult to fit all that math work onto one minute. Mrs. Skala's ClassMrs. Stump and Mrs. Duran's ClassThe 6th Graders had the awesome opportunity to participate in Egypt Day today! They attended different stations: art, language, math, and even got to feast like an Egyptian and share their Egypt songs! Click here to visit the Egypt Day channel on YouTube with all the students' Egypt Songs... and check out all their awesome costumes with our green screen video below: I had the awesome opportunity to work with the 6th graders today, and review GarageBand! The students have written Egypt Songs - full of content about Ancient Egypt - and are going to record it in GarageBand. Their songs should be complete by next week, ready to share for Egypt Day on Oct. 13th!
I am visiting our lovely 2nd grade classrooms every week to work with students on screen casting. If you are unfamiliar with screen casting, it is a digital recording of a screen (often a computer screen) usually with audio narration. In 2nd grade, we are using an app called Vittle (the free version for now) to make math thinking visible. It gives the students an opportunity to TEACH what they know. It's an incredibly powerful tool, and the kids really enjoy it. We are working on including math vocabulary, being clear and explicit in our instructions and steps, and maintaining a manageable volume - which of course can be very challenging with many students recording at the same time. Here are just SOME of the videos I was able to capture! *Students were working on demonstrating the "Make a Ten" strategy to help with addition problems!
