I worked with 2nd grade today (again), 5th grade, and Mrs. Piper's 6th graders. All classes learned about Podcasting! In order to get introduced to podcasts, I played a few examples - History Goes Bump, Stuff You Missed in History Class, Stories Podcast, and a few others. We learned that the artist needs a program to record their podcast on, so I gave both classes a brief lesson on GarageBand - they will learn much more later! As a class, we created a group podcast, reciting a poem about Spring. Please listen below! Enjoy! 2nd Grade Podcasts!5th/6th grade Podcasts!

Today I worked with the 2nd grade and Mrs, Mitchell's 6th grade class. The 2nd graders completed their Word Clouds, and the 6th graders began their unit on Podcasting. We talked about what a podcast is, and what they're used for. I also played them a few examples of professional podcasts. Then, I gave a short tutorial on GarageBand and we completed a group podcast of a Spring poem. Check out all the student work below! Enjoy! Mrs. Little's Class - Word Clouds! It was their turn to create their Word Clouds! Students wrote a short narrative about the activities and things they love. After typing their narrative into the app, they students created their Word Clouds, and sent the picture to me via Air Drop! Check out their Word Cloud creations below! Enjoy! Check out the photos and videos below! The 4th graders designed their Word Clouds. Students learned that it's a word frequency app/program, so if they wanted a word to appear larger (like their name), they needed to type it multiple times. The students wrote a short narrative about themselves, including what makes them unique. Students also learned about Apple's Air Drop - which allows content sharing between Apple devices, and sent me their artwork via Air Drop! Some of the apps that the kids worked on are: Inventioneers, Letter Quiz, and Undersea Math (all *free*). The Kindergarteners are really loving the Inventioneers app (which I thought would be very challenging, but the kiddos are giving it a shot!). I enjoy watching kids ask for help... usually from other students, and students so eager to help each other. Some of these apps are puzzles and involve problem solving, and it is nice to see Kinder students working hard to figure out the solution to a problem, or puzzle. Check out some videos of some of the apps we worked with: Inventioneers!Undersea Math!Letter Quiz!Do you have any favorite Kindergarten educational apps?
The Kindergarten students had time to explore more learning apps today! Here are a few we worked with: A general favorite is called Box Drop Math. It was been really neat to see the kids learn different strategies to solve addition facts quickly and efficiently!
Another favorite is called Endless Wordplay. It helps students with spelling and supports their phonemic awareness!
Finally, we have Doodle Fit. It can be a very challenging game, but I have seen many Kindergarten students attempt it and work hard! They are incredibly determined! I love to see students fail and use logic to fix their mistakes and persevere! I absolutely love watching this little lady work with the app... you can see the wheels turning in her head, trying to figure out the puzzle! I met lots of new 1st and 6th grade friends today! Today was the first day I got to work with the other half of students. It really has been so wonderful to meet all the terrific students here at this school. I am greeted by so many smiles and hugs each day, that it can make it difficult to walk through the hallway! In RESULTS, we worked on Word Clouds - the same lesson I did a few months ago for the other students... except this time, we completed them using the iPad Word Cloud app! Here are Mrs. Lohner's, Mrs. Boco's, Mrs. DePerro's, and Mrs. Mitchell's students' work! *podcasts are still being uploaded - come back soon! The 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students got a wonderful start on their podcasts today! We connected their podcast content to the learning that's happening in their classes and the students couldn't be more excited to begin! The students learned all about the functions of Garageband on the iPad and began recording in their makeshift "recording studios". I'm so excited to hear their final products and share them with you! Students should be done recording by next week. Here are some photos of the students working diligently in their "studios"! Today I worked with half the Kinder kids to discover and explore some new apps. Some of these apps include: Inventioneers (I was really surprised that the students did well on this app - it's tough!), Box Drop Math Addition (fun adding game), Endless Wordplay, Butterfly Math, Caillou Search and Find, Eggy 100 HD, and lots of letter and number tracing apps.
Here are some cute photos I snapped! These kiddos were all about helping each other with the apps! I love it when technology brings kids together to cooperate and collaborate. They had lots of fun getting comfortable around the library and learning together! |
