Here is a neat video from the Garden Club - check it out! I visited the school garden today and worked with some wonderful Garden Club members! We worked together to create 4 short videos about our school garden: Composting, Milkweed, Touch and Smell Garden, and the Zoo Garden. I'll post the video later, but here is a very neat photo of the girls in action!
1st and 6th Grade (Mrs. Mitchell's Class)Today, I worked with the 1st grade and 6th grade! The 1st graders learned podcasts, and we even listened to a few examples, like: History Goes Bump Podcast, Current Events with an 8 Year Old, and The News to Amuse. We learned that podcasts can serve many different purposes: mostly to inform, to entertain, and to persuade. I then showed them the GarageBand app, and we learned about recording our voices. We completed a reading of a Spring Poem as our very first podcast. The students really love hearing their voices, as well as their classmates! They will be working on their OWN podcast during the next few weeks. Here are our Spring Poem Podcasts. Enjoy! The 6th graders learned how to plan their podcast. We listened to a few more examples of podcasts, and I showed them the Podcast Storyboard that I created. The students worked hard with their their groups to think of some creative ways to teach their listeners about Ancient China. Here are some pictures of them hard at work! I will be so excited to share them with you when they are done in a few weeks!

Chula Vista Hills Elementary had a FANTASTIC morning! We had a very special assembly... GoNoodle! Have you heard of GoNoodle? It is an online program that helps channel kids' physical and emotional energy for GOOD. It's free and the best part is... kids LOVE it! Our friend from GoNoodle, Raffi, talked to kids about stress, and 3 strategies how to conquer it, The first strategy we practiced was BREATHING. The second strategy was to LOOSEN UP. The final strategy is to HAVE FUN and do something that makes you smile and laugh - like dancing! Here are some awesome photos and videos that I captured during the assembly! Oh - and we also had a very special guest stop by - Mr. Cat Man!!! Thank you Raffi, and GoNoodle for paying our school a very special visit. Please come back soon! Introductions - Secret Handshakes! All classes learned about Podcasting! In order to get introduced to podcasts, I played a few examples - History Goes Bump, Stuff You Missed in History Class, Stories Podcast, and a few others. We learned that the artist needs a program to record their podcast on, so I gave both classes a brief lesson on GarageBand - they will learn much more later! As a class, we created a group podcast, reciting a poem about Spring. Please listen below! Enjoy! 2nd Grade Podcasts!5th/6th grade Podcasts!Today I worked with the 2nd grade and Mrs, Mitchell's 6th grade class. The 2nd graders completed their Word Clouds, and the 6th graders began their unit on Podcasting. We talked about what a podcast is, and what they're used for. I also played them a few examples of professional podcasts. Then, I gave a short tutorial on GarageBand and we completed a group podcast of a Spring poem. Check out all the student work below! Enjoy! Check out the photos and videos below! The 4th graders designed their Word Clouds. Students learned that it's a word frequency app/program, so if they wanted a word to appear larger (like their name), they needed to type it multiple times. The students wrote a short narrative about themselves, including what makes them unique. Students also learned about Apple's Air Drop - which allows content sharing between Apple devices, and sent me their artwork via Air Drop!
